Sutherland Falls is a waterfall near Milford Sound in New Zealand's South Island. At 580 meters the falls were long believed to be the tallest waterfall in New Zealand.
Tawhai Falls (Gollum's Pool)
Tongariro National Park's Gollum's Pool (also known as Tawhai Falls) is a well-known waterfall. It appears in Lord of the Rings as the forbidden pool where Frodo and Faramir catch Gollum. If you've spent the day traveling to come to National Park, the short walk to the waterfall is a great opportunity to stretch your legs and enjoy some fresh air. It's a terrific place to go before or after supper. The path is well-defined, and you should just need a pair of sneakers or slides to get to the waterfall. The temperature drops dramatically during the winter months, so bring extra warm clothing for the stroll.
